In 2009, we started as a small legal firm providing limited services, restricted to one major city in India. We
struggled – we struggled to get a 6 X 6 feet “Premium” office space in the High Court Area, we struggled with
the predatory and fluctuating fee structures for legal services, we struggled to reach common public as a
service provider as opposed to “get a lawyer when you are in trouble” type works. Basically, we felt that we are
the tiniest part of an aged industry which could never change itself. We felt like outsiders. But we kept at it
anyway, with a strong desire to change the status-quo.
In this journey, another thing we realized was that this system puts an unfair difficulty for new talents, for
new blood in the industry. Competition is so fierce; many new talents just don’t get real opportunity to prove
themselves. So, a serious decentralization or overhaul was the need of the hour of this industry. And above all,
legal service industry needed to distant itself from all the social taboo associated with it.
In 2016, one of our present partners came back from the USA to India, with a passion to contribute in India’s
tomorrow. He had served in executive capacity in several large multinational IT Product and Services companies
in the USA, and he had the perfect vision to disrupt the Legal Industry in India. He joined us in 2016 and the
journey of Legalyy was started. We launched our online legal marketplace in 2017, and we added our latest
innovation of creating a network of freelancing lawyers in 2019.
Today, when we look back into our journey, we feel proud that we just didn’t settle with the idea of fitting
in. We struggled, we risked our careers, we innovated, and we challenged ourselves in every step of the way. And
finally, we have realized our long-standing goal to disrupt the status-quo.
